Community Outreach
The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery planned to expand its services to the outside of the immediate Downstate community and to extend our customer service to other patients and outside referring physicians. The community outreach service was initiated by setting up an offsite cardiothoracic surgery outpatient practice in Flushing, Queens, where we have captured 20 major cardiac and thoracic cases in less than six months.
We are also planning to open a similar site in Sunset Park, Brooklyn in a private office that belongs to a Downstate Urology faculty member. The space is in a new building that is currently being constructed to the specifications of a medical office. The Downstate faculty practice has recently completed a lease agreement at a medical building in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. It has been utilized by one of our Downstate faculty cardiologist with much success.
In addition, we are looking forward to participate in the Flatlands site in conjunction with the Downstate Heart Failure Center, where cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery consultations can be available within one physical setting. State-of-the-Art imaging equipment will be acquired for this site to provide the most sophisticated cardiac care in Brooklyn.
