In addition to his expertise in the field of kidney transplantation, Dr. Distant has initiated the technique of laporascopic donor nephrectomy for living donor transplantation at SUNY Downstate. Dr. Distant also initiated the use of the dual kidney transplant technique which allows the transplantation of kidneys from older donors which otherwise might not be used.

Dr. Distant is the Director of Kidney Transplantation and his innovative leadership has allowed the division to move forward and flourish in the ever expanding field of transplantation.
